Quoting her favorite lyrics from Taylor Swift's song "Better Man," Kris Aquino shared an appreciation post for her fiance Mel Sarmiento after he defended her from comments made by the senatorial aspirant and former Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista.
To backtrack, Herbert recently posted statements on social media that talked about his romantic past. On Twitter, the actor-turned-politician addressed Sen. Panfilo Lacson about being inspired to propose to someone.
The now-deleted Tweet reads, "Mr. President Ping @iampinglacson, na-inspire din tuloy akong mag-propose. Kaso, sayang… May napili na po siya. #KungMaibabalikKoLang #TOTGA"
Mel quickly came to Kris' defense and issued a statement that reads, "Although Mayor Herbert Bautista has already taken down his post which obviously referred to Kris, I just wish that this would serve as a reminder that talking about past flames in public is improper and ungentlemanlike."
The "Queen of All Media" then penned an open letter to Herbert where she wrote, "To the man Mel confronted, mahaba ang pinagsamahan natin. Sana huwag mo na lang baguhin pa ang kwento?"
She added, "It's common knowledge that you're now in a new relationship with a beautiful girlfriend… So if you need to talk about your love life, please talk about your present, not your past."
In a follow-up Instagram post, Kris shared a screenshot of Taylor's song playing and wrote in the caption, "When I woke up beside him this morning, I really thanked God and thanked my kuya up in heaven for reconnecting me with #thebetterman."
"Thank you babe… Nobody has stood up and fought for me the way you have consistently been doing. You have never blamed me for my past, instead, you have just loved me for me," Kris wrote.
Kris continued, "Every time I remember last week when we mistakenly thought ready for occupancy na Bimb's unit, (we are leasing two, unfortunately, one floor apart) before we left he hugged you tight and said 'I love you Tito Mel, please take special care of Mama because I love her so much.' I really thank God because my beloved bunso both loves and trusts you. #family"
Now that the dust has settled, Herbert has since apologized to Kris, where he admitted that the "loose remark unjustifiably hurt feelings." In a later Tweet, he wrote, "Alam kong maalagaan ka niya, and I can see that you're happier now. Aminado ako, I know I have not been good enough."
