For the first time, Kyline Alcantara and Darren Espanto were together on an episode of the noontime show, It's Showtime. Although they did not share the stage, the two had an exchange that got the Internet intrigued.
Kyline performed "Save Your Tears" with Kapamilya singer, Jeremy G. After her production number, the Kapuso celebrity admitted she was nervous. The hosts assured her that she did a great job.
Following the hosts' remarks on Kyline's performance, Kim Chiu started a new topic saying, "Habang kumakanta ka, merong nakatingin sa'yo, hindi siya kumukurap... Si Darren!"
Kyline jokingly said, "Talaga ba? Sa singkit na 'yan?" Then Kim further said, "Sabi niya [Darren] ang galing pala ni Kyline talaga."
Kyline appeared to be riding the banter. "Alam niyo po kung bakit?" She asked Kim and the other hosts. She turned to Darren and said, "Kasi nga..." Kyline was waiting for Darren to continue her sentence while smiling.
Darren, who appeared to be at a loss of words, laughed and asked, "Ano?" Kyline can be heard telling him, "Sabihin mo," as if she's hinting at something for Darren to reveal to the public.
The Kapamilya actor-singer didn't throw a rebuttal to the supposedly funny banter with Kyline. Instead, he smiled and laughed until fellow co-host, Karylle, noticed that the two had fans at the studio. The fans were holding banners that read, "KyRren." Karylle remarked, "May mga shippers pala kayo."
Kim continued to pry into Darren and Kyline's connection. "Anong feeling na mapanood mo si Kyline?" she asked the younger co-host. "Siyempre masaya ako kasi nakakatawid na siya dito sa atin [ABS-CBN]. Siyempre, nasa Showtime na rin siya," he replied.
The point when Darren and Kyline fell speechless was when Vice Ganda had another intriguing joke. "Sa susunod daw kayo ni Darren ang kumanta. Kanta raw kayo ng 'We Are Family,'" she told Kyline.

The joke continued to their Instagram accounts as Darren commented on Kyline's recent video post. He wrote, "Kasi nga..." to which Kyline responded with, "Kasi namern."
Their It's Showtime conversation followed the release of Darren's interview referring to his relationship with Cassy Legaspi. Cassy is the twin sister of Kyline's reported ex-boyfriend, Mavy Legaspi.
Because of this connection, Darren and Kyline have spent some time with the Legaspi family. On one occasion, netizens thought they all went on a "triple date" with the Legaspi twins' parents, Zoren Legaspi and Carmina Villarroel. Carmina even posted photos of their bonding night on Instagram in January 2023.
However, their friendship might have reached a turning point—but not in a good way. In August 2023, eagle-eyed netizens speculated that Cassy and Kyline had reportedly unfollowed each other on Instagram. The real reason behind this remains unknown today.
By November 2023, Cassy was asked about her rumored rift with Kyline. She gave a short and elusive response. Darren was with her during the said interview.
It was Darren who first responded to the question, "Alam niyo po, may mga bagay na hindi na kailangan pang pag-usapan... I mean, whatever happened in the past..."
"Is in the past," Cassy quickly added. She also declared that everybody's "chill" now. "Lahat naman tayo, chill," the Kapuso actress asserted. She then disclosed that she was "civil" with Kyline.
Months later, reports of Kyline and Mavy breaking up circulated. Cryptic posts then followed the rumors. Kyline made headlines for posting, "I knew it. This statement drew various reactions from her followers.

Darren Espanto on his relationship with Cassy Legaspi
In a recent interview with ABS-CBN News, Darren insisted he has no romantic relationship with Cassy. Instead, they have maintained to be best friends throughout the years.
"Makulit sila e, sabi namin best friend lang kami ni Cassy. Best friends talaga e. Parang it's something that a lot of people, I guess, won't get," he said in the interview.
The actor-singer further added, "Hindi ko alam kung paano i-explain but siyempre, andun pa rin 'yung pagmamahal namin para sa isa't isa."
Following Darren's interview were Instagram stories from Cassy and Carmina, which the Internet thinks were a bit cryptic. Carmina posted a quote that read, "Don't expect the same in return."
On the other hand, Cassy shared Olivia Rodrigo's song, "Favorite Crime" via an Instagram Story. In case you're curious, the song has lyrics that go:

In November 2022, Cassy also called Darren her best friend. "We're very close. So, I would say best friend. Best friend ko siya [Darren]," Cassy said in an episode of Sarap, ‘Di Ba? which she hosts with her Mavy and Carmina.
Despite their best friend status, Cassy and Darren have been spotted having sweet and cute moments. They attended two major events as a pair. Darren made his first GMA Gala appearance in 2023 as Cassy's plus one! On the other hand, Cassy also attended the ABS-CBN Ball 2023 together with Darren.
