Aww, Leon Barretto Was Sophia Laforteza's Ultimate Hype Man At KATSEYE's Coachella Set

Published on Apr 13, 2026
Filipino representation showed up loud and proud on one of the biggest international music festival stages—and of course, as a close friend of one of the performers, Leon Barretto couldn't help but beam with pride as Sophia Laforteza of KATSEYE took part in a truly historic moment.
ICYMI, Leon attended Weekend 1 of this year's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, held April 10 to 12 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. Weekend 2 is set to run April 17 to 19, meaning fans still have another chance to catch the lineup live.
What made this year's festival even more special: the strong presence of Filipino talent on the lineup. P-pop girl group BINI and global girl group KATSEYE—featuring Filipino member and leader Sophia—both lit up the stage, marking a major moment for Filipino fans around the world.
"i am incredibly proud of u," Leon wrote, sharing a clip from Sophia's performance at the music fest. "getting to witness this live is the greatest blessing i could ever ask for ❤️"

From the crowd, Leon was every bit the ultimate hype man—cheering Sophia on, capturing moments, and even securing the best fancam angles of her set. Five out of six members took the stage: Yoonchae, Daniela, Lara, Sophia, and Megan. (Manon is currently on hiatus.) They performed their hit songs "Touch," "Gnarly," and "Gabriela."
The support didn't come as a surprise to those who've followed their friendship. Leon has long been open about his bond with Sophia, even including her in his self-declared roster of people he "loves most." The two have shared plenty of wholesome moments together, including ringing in the year with a trip to Hong Kong Disneyland alongside their families.

Other Filipinos have also been showing up and showing out, hyping and cheering on Filipino artists at Coachella. Filipino-American influencer Bretman Rock was spotted in the crowd, proudly fangirling over BINI and singing along to their tracks—including their Filipino-language songs—and the energy was absolutely electric!
With Weekend 2 still ahead, fans are already gearing up for another round of viral moments, powerhouse performances, and crowd chants that will echo way beyond the desert. Safe to say, Filipino pride isn't just showing up this year—it's making noise, and owning the stage.
