Liz Uy Didn't 'Recycle' Yaya Dub's Gown, Says Makeup Artist Juan Sarte

"It's not a hand-me-down from Kim Chiu because she doesn't own the gown."

Maine Mendoza, aka Yaya Dub, went to the #AlDubEBSaTamangPanahon in a beautiful Francis Libiran creation on October 24, Saturday at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan. Her onscreen partner, Alden Richards, wore a long tail Francis Libiran tux.

AlDub fans thought Maine looked super elegant for the big night, but many also questioned Maine's stylist, Liz Uy, who sourced the gown from Francis. You see, the same frock was worn by actress Kim Chiu for Francis Libiran's Metrowear Icon fashion show in EDSA Shangri-La in 2013.

A fan commented on Instagram, "Masyadong luma pinasuot niyo kay Maine! Siya ang bagong Princesa ng Showbiz! Yesterday was history made in Philippine Arena. She deserved a custom-made gown. To Libiran Team, you should have informed the stylist na luma yung gown at nasuot na ng ibang artista."

One fan also said, "You know, this should serve as a lesson for the stylist. Mag-iingat sa pagpili ng ipasusuot. I agree na maganda ang gown but for this big kind of event...deserve naman ni Meng ng bagong tahi..."

Designer Francis Libiran took to Instagram to defend himself, saying that the gown "was bought and paid for by Eat Bulaga Production," adding, "The gown was first previewed during the Francis Libiran Metrowear Icon fashion show held at the Edsa Shangri-La in 2013 where we launched an entire 100-piece collection, including the Pink Series. Our good friend Miss Kim Chiu was generous enough to model this gown for the said fashion show. This gown has not been worn by any other event by any other celebrity."

Makeup artist Juan Sarte, who did Maine's makeup during #AlDubEBSaTamangPanahon, also defended Francis and Liz on Facebook, saying: "There was a custom-made gown for Maine but it turned out medyo plain for the event (considering one week lang to from announcement to actual event). Liz wanted it [Maine's outfit] to be a notch higher for the big event that's why she pulled out ready-to-wear gowns from designers.

"The Francis Libiran gown was a pull-out/fall back pero mas bumagay kasi sa modern Cinderella theme you all enjoyed. Kaya rin naka-tail coat si Alden (in case you didn't understand why).

"Liz cleared with Francis Libiran and he said it has never been worn except in his fashion show. It's not a hand-me-down from Kim Chiu because she doesn't own the gown. Liz didn't 'recycle' the gown, because hindi naman siya ang stylist ni Kim.

"Binili ang gown! Sa panahon na almost lahat ng clothes na sinusuot ng artista sa TV at appearances ay 'hiram'...bravo kay Mr. Tuviera for buying the gown! The man doesn't believe in 'patronage politics.' So ano ang recycle doon?

"Kung na-achieve ng buong show na pasayahin ka at nag-enjoy ka naman, bakit kailangan gawing nega ang event?"
