Though the beauty queen initially wanted to answer in English, she has since said, "Wala namang masama kung magta-translate tayo, and I’m here also to win… I will request if I have to." Meanwhile, in a separate interview at the Governor’s Ball on January 16, Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz urged Maxine to get an interpreter "if she feels that she can better express her thoughts using our vernacular language." Diaz added, "She is a Filipina and I don’t think it will make her less of a beauty queen if she will decide to use our language on the grand coronation."
2 Maine Mendoza is one happy fan girl! On Instagram, the actress gushed about some personalized gifts she received from—wait for it—Coldplay frontman Chris Martin! According to Mendoza, a friend was in the same flight as Martin and took the opportunity to ask for a written message for one of his biggest fans. He also composed a video message for Maine and gave her the LOVE button that he always wears. "Okay, this has got to be one of the most PRECIOUS gifts I have ever received in my entire life," Mendoza captioned her post. "Chris Martin might not know me at all but daaamn this is definitely #fangirlinggoals." Indeed!
3 One Direction member Louis Tomlinson just opened up about recently losing his mom to leukemia. According to MTV.com, Tomlinson revealed to radio station Sirius XM that he wanted to give up after learning the news, "but it was my mum who said to me that I've just got to keep going. She told me very sternly that she wanted me to." Tomlinson also spoke about mending things with ex-bandmate Zayn Malik. "I think a lot of us have spoken recently, me and Zayn have spoken recently, [it’s] gotten to a point now where you can just really be happy for each other," he said.
