It Looks Like Miley Cyrus Is Addressing The Breakup With Liam Hemsworth In Her New Song 'Slide Away'

While Taylor Swift released her romantic single “Lover” on August 16, Miley Cyrus dropped her new song “Slide Away,” which seems to be about her recent breakup with husband Liam Hemsworth.

These lines are reminding us of the split:

"Once upon a time, it was paradise / One upon a time, I was paralyzed / Think I’m gonna miss these harbor lights / But it’s time to let it go."

On August 12, a day after the split went public, Miley posted a photo of herself recording a new song. "Slide Away" could be it.

"I want my house in the hills / Don’t want the whiskey and pills."

People reported that Miley was fed up with Liam’s partying habits. The source was quoted as saying, “Liam parties with his friends, and Miley thinks he should’ve grown out of that by now.”

"So won’t you slide away? / Back to the ocean, I’ll go back to the city lights."

Liam was photographed surfing after the news of the breakup broke the internet. Liam, who hails from Australia, is a big surfer. Based on Miley's lines in the song "Malibu," she didn't really like the ocean, until she met Liam: "I never came to the beach or stood by the ocean / I never sat by the shore under the sun with my feet in the sand / But you brought me here, and I'm happy that you did." So her saying that Liam should go back to the ocean and she to the city literally shows them going their separate ways.

Miley and Liam met and began dating 10 years ago, when the two were shooting The Last Song. She was 17 turning 18, and he was 19.
