Crowds Booing, Judges Speaking Out, And A Queen Resigning? Here's Everything That Went Down After Miss Universe 2025

This year's Miss Universe contest blew up on social media for a lot of different reasons other than the coronation, like the changes in leadership mere months(!) before the finals. While fans across the globe passionately rallied behind their favorite candidates, several moments after the event also caught a lot of media attention. 

Here's a rundown of everything that unfolded after the Miss Universe 2025 competition.

ICYDK, Gabrielle Henry of Jamaica suffered a serious fall during the preliminary evening gown competition before the final coronation. She was immediately taken to a hospital in Thailand, where she remains confined in the intensive care unit (ICU).

While the medical findings were not disclosed, her family released an official statement on the day of the final competition, sharing that her condition is currently not improving.

"Gabby isn't doing as well as we would have hoped, but the hospital continues to treat her accordingly," Dr. Phylicia Henry-Samuels, Gabrielle's sister, shared.

"Medical personnel have further indicated that Gabrielle will be required to remain in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for a minimum of seven days, as doctors continue their close monitoring and specialised care," the statement added.

An alleged booing incident after the coronation became one of the most talked-about moments of the night. Clips circulating on social media show the supposed boos happening near the exit area of the venue right after the Miss Universe 2025 winner was announced.

Major outlets like The Straits Times and Mothership SG reported on the issue, adding more traction to the conversation.

"Fátima Bosch Fernández of Mexico was named Miss Universe after a pageant marked with controversy, judges' resignations and allegations of mismanagement... After Bosch's coronation in the Impact Challenger Hall on Nov. 21, boos could be heard from the crowd at the venue," Mothership SG wrote.

Meanwhile, The Straits Times described Miss Universe 2025 as an "exceptionally chaotic edition" given the turbulent events leading up to the finals.

While opinions remain divided over Mexico's win, social media speculation has only intensified, with some users calling it a "cooking show"—a slang term suggesting that the results were predetermined and the winner had been decided long before the coronation.

Controversies surrounding the Miss Universe 2025 coronation continued to escalate when resigned judge Omar Harfouch began sharing bold claims about the results on social media. One post in particular had the internet taken aback when he said: "Miss Mexico is a fake winner."

He went on: "I Omar Harfouch declared yesterday exclusively on the American HBO, 24 hours before the Miss Universe final, that Miss Mexico would win—because Miss Universe owner Raul Rocha is in business with Fatima Bosch's father."

Beyond these allegations, Omar also announced that he is pursuing legal action against the organization for "fraud, abuse of power, corruption, deception, breach of contract, conflict of interest, and emotional and reputational damages."

He claimed there were serious irregularities in the voting system, saying the "election process was already compromised."

Omar has continued to speak publicly about the issue even days after the competition. He is calling for accountability and urging the organization to establish an independent committee that would oversee a more transparent national and international voting system. 

He is also pushing for all future elections to be supervised by a certified auditing firm to verify both national and global votes.  According to him, this level of auditing should be a "mandatory requirement in all licenses and agreements with participating countries."

Despite finishing as third runner-up, Ahtisa Manalo of the Philippines left a powerful and lasting impression far beyond the Miss Universe stage especially through her continued advocacy for youth empowerment. During the coronation party, she secured third place in the "Beyond the Crown" segment, a competition focused on highlighting each candidate's advocacy work.

Even during the final question-and-answer round, Ahtisa stayed firm in her mission. She underscored that her purpose for joining Miss Universe was to champion young people from marginalized communities and create more opportunities for them. 

She also shared her hope to carry this work forward by partnering with the non-profit organization Alon Akademie, reinforcing that her advocacy does not end with the pageant.

"I work with an organization called Alon Akademie, where we work with young people to provide them opportunities, to make them realize that it doesn't matter what your life circumstances [are], it doesn't define where you will go," Ahtisa said during the competition. 

"And I want to continue working with Alon Akademie on a bigger platform like Miss Universe, to pursue making sure that people who come from low-income backgrounds are given the same opportunities as everyone else," she added.

Miss Universe Fourth Runner-Up Olivia Yace, who was set to assume the title of Miss Universe Africa & Oceania, has stepped down, stressing that her decision was made to uphold the values and guiding principles she holds toward excellence.

"As the representative of Cote d’Ivoire at the Miss Universe 2025 competition in Bangkok, I witnessed firsthand that I was capable of accomplishing great things despite adversity. But to continue on this path, I must remain true to my values: respect, dignity, excellence, and equal opportunity [with] the strongest pillars that guide me," Olivia opened.

"Throughout my journey as an ambassador and beauty queen, I have served with commitment, resilience, discipline, and determination. However, to fully reach my potential, I must firmly remain anchored in my values, guiding principles, that pave the way toward excellence,” she added.

Olivia released her statement through her social media accounts early this week, publishing both English and French versions. Though she is relinquishing the title, she affirmed that she will continue her mission and stay dedicated to her advocacy.

"Stepping away from this diminished role of Miss Universe Africa and Oceania will allow me to dedicate myself fully to defending the values I hold dear," Olivia shared.

"I call upon Black, African, Caribbean, American, and Afro-descendant communities: continue entering spaces where you are not expected. Let us open the way for the brothers and sisters who will follow us. Never let anyone define who we are or limit our potential. Our presence matters, and our voices must be heard," she added.
