A new queen has been named and now, Miss Universe 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters has the privilege of wearing the iconic Phoenix Mikimoto Crown.

Designed by Tomohiro Yamaji under the Mikimoto Pearl company in Japan, the famed headpiece has been worn by Miss Universe titleholders from 2002 to 2007, Oxana Fedorova from Russia being the first. It was last used in the pageant by Miss Universe 2007, Riyo Mori from Japan; however, Miss Universe 2015, Pia Wurtzbach, was given the chance to wear it for her last official photo shoot for Miss Universe last January 2017.

The prestigious crown is made of 500 diamonds and 120 South Sea and Akoya pearls. Its overall look is attributed to the seven auspicious feathers of the phoenix, which symbolizes status, power, and beauty.
