Nadine Lustre Stands Her Ground As She Files Complaint Against Online Harassment

Nadine Lustre is standing up for herself—and for everyone experiencing malicious attacks, especially online.
In a statement posted on May 22, 2025, ML Partylist representative, former Senator Leila De Lima expressed solidarity with Nadine's move to file a formal complaint for violation of the Safe Spaces Act. The statement included photos of Nadine personally filing the complaint in front of authorities.
"We support Nadine. Her case is a stand for truth and accountability," the statement read.
"This is a necessary step in a time when social media is being used to silence voices that speak for justice and reform. [...] We believe in freedom of expression. Pero ang kalayaang ito ay hindi dapat gamitin laban sa katotohanan, dignidad, at demokrasya. Expression becomes dangerous when it is driven by disinformation and personal malice," Rep. De Lima further stated. ICYDK, Nadine endorsed ML Partylist in the recently held midterm elections.
Rep. De Lima also emphasized that many social media comments today go beyond mere opinions—with most often crafted to spread malice and cause harm. "There are part of deliberate effort to harass, discredit, and instill fear. May masamang intensyon. May malinaw na layunin na patahimikin ang mga tumitindig."

What is the Safe Spaces Act?
The Safe Spaces Act or Republic Act No. 11313, according to the Philippine Commission on Women, is a law that covers all forms of gender-based sexual harassment in public spaces—and yes, even online spaces.
These gender-based sexual harassment includes, but is not limited to, sexist, misogynistic, and homophobic remarks, statements of sexual comments or suggestions, stalking, and other uninvited sexual comments. Perpetrators can face up to six months of imprisonment with a P100,00 fine for the gravest offense.

Nadine Lustre on using her voice for good
Nadine has always been vocal about her principles and advocacies. Whether it's about animal cruelty, the kind of food she consumes, the products she buys (she's vegan!), or her political views, she has made her progressive takes loud and clear.

One solid example would be the recently concluded midterm elections in the Philippines. Days before elections, the actress used her platform to call for fellow Filipinos to exercise their right to vote.
Nadine noted how crucial every vote is for the country's future. "Isang boto lang mula sa bawat isa sa atin—pero kapag pinagsama-sama, puwede nitong itulak ang bansa sa panibagong direksyon. Isa itong bihirang pagkakataon. Huwag sana nating sayangin," she wrote on IG last May 10.
Nadine also called on everyone to really think and reflect about the candidates they'll be voting for. After all, the results of the elections will not only affect a certain group of Filipinos, but the entire nation now and in the near future.
"Magkakaiba man tayo ng paniniwala at pinapaborang kandidato—normal lang 'yon. Pero sa kabila ng lahat, huwag sana nating kalimutan: iisang bayan ang kinabibilangan natin. Iisang kinabukasan ang hinuhubog natin ngayon," Nadine expressed.
"Mahal ko ang Pilipinas, at alam kong karapat-dapat tayong lahat sa isang mas patas at maayos na sistema," she concluded.
