Nadine Lustre Gets Real About Not Wanting Kids—And Why Motherhood Isn't Part Of Her Plans

Typically, when a woman turns thirty, people assume she's finally at the "perfect age" for motherhood and family life. After years of being told to wait, society suddenly gives her the green light to settle down and have kids.

But for Nadine Lustre, who turns 32 this October, motherhood isn't part of the plan. Instead, she's choosing to dedicate her 30s to herself, focusing on her growth, career, and business. And honestly, we're all for it!

In an interview with entertainment journalist MJ Felipe, Nadine shared the same fears many women have in today’s economy.

"Nakakatakot maging nanay honestly," Nadine opened up.

She said that having kids isn't an unfamiliar topic between her and longtime boyfriend, Christophe Bariou, as it's something they often discuss.

"I've been working for as long as I can remember. I can't imagine having another responsibility other than my career. I'm so focused on my career and, of course, [Christophe]. And our businesses as well so parang hindi ako ready," she expressed.

Still, Nadine shared that she has deep admiration for women who choose motherhood, acknowledging how challenging it can be: "Saludo talaga ako sa mga moms."

This isn’t the first time Nadine has openly shared her thoughts about not wanting to have kids. In a YouTube video uploaded by actress Bea Alonzo in 2023, Nadine had already spoken about motherhood and giving birth.

"First of all, takot akong manganak. Yun talaga yung pinaka-reason ko kung bakit ayaw ko magkaroon ng kids na sarili," Nadine told Bea.

Nadine also revealed that she feels deeply for children who are left without parents, which is why she is leaning more toward adoption.

Other than Nadine, many Filipino women are also choosing to live child-free. In fact, data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in 2022 showed a significant decline in the fertility rate among Filipino women aged 15 to 49.

Nearly half—or 48.8%—of currently married women in this age group, including those who are sterilized or whose husbands are sterilized, expressed that they do not want any more children.
