On Friday, November 25, an overseas Filipino worker now based in Jordan left her three-month-old baby boy with a woman whom she just met at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1.
"The [OFW] was identified as Vilma Lastima, 36, of Maco, Davao del Norte. She and her son had arrived at NAIA on Thursday, November 24, and had spent the night there," reports Rudy Santos in the Philippine Star.
On Friday morning, Lastima befriended Myrna Pasacao Bonaobra, 35, a Las Piñas City resident. Bonaobra was at the airport to pick up her friend flying from Taiwan.
Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) general manager Ed Monreal told ABS-CBN News that Lastima left her baby with Bonaobra, promising to return "after 30 minutes."
However, Bonaobra was alarmed when Lastima failed to come back. She then sought the help of the airport authorities.
The baby was later turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). The agency will, presumably, also try to track down Lastima.
