The 28-year-old Palaweña bagged the first runner-up prize during the coronation night on March 27, Saturday, held in Bangkok, Thailand.
Miss Guatemala won second runner-up while Miss USA's Abena Appiah won the title of Miss Grand International. Other countries which placed in the top five were Indonesia and Brazil.
Samantha was a consistent fan favorite throughout the competition, raking in some of the highest numbers of online votes for the preliminary swimsuit competition and national costume.
"Everything I've been through, and all that I am, I owe and lift everything to you!" Samantha wrote in an IG post on the day of the coronation night. "I will glorify you forever. Let this day be mine and use this life of mine to inspire and to be a channel of hope, love, and unity. This is it!"
Other Filipinas such as Elizabeth Clenci finished second-runner up in 2017, and Nicole Cordoves finished first runner-up in 2016.
