You might know Saweetie from her hits "Icy Girl" and "My Type," but the 28-year-old rapper just made waves in the fashion scene at this year's Met Gala. For her very first Met, Saweetie wore a slinky red Christian Cowan gown that was made withno joke10 million hand placed crystals! What makes her look even more special, though, is how she wanted to celebrate her Black and Filipino roots with this year's Met Gala theme, In America: A Lexicon Of Fashion.

"I have two flags draped delicately on my body," she told the press. "One of them is the Black American Heritage flag and the other is the Filipino flag 'cause I'm Black and Filipino, and that's what makes me an American girl."

ICYDK, Saweetie, whose full name is Diamonté Quiava Valentin Harper, has a Filipino Chinese mom and an African American dad. In recent years, she's been vocal about her heritage and even spoke about wanting to be an inspiration to "Black and brown girls." In her April 2021 cover story with Cosmopolitan, Saweetie said, "Last year was the year that I finally became comfortable in my own skin. I kind of figured out what my purpose was. I think it's important to show little Black and brown girls that they can be successful in whatever they want to do. If I can do it, you can do it too."

September has been huge for Saweetie: She was just announced as the newest ambassador of MAC Cosmetics and won her first award at the MTV VMAs for Best Art Direction alongside Doja Cat for their song "Best Friend."

We couldn't be more proud of you, Saweetie!
