Yesterday, it was reported that Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber hung out at Selena's L.A. home last weekend, marking the first time the couple has reunited publicly after they fell out publicly on Instagram last year.

So what prompted these famous exes to bury the hatchet and reconnect?

"Selena is simply trying to make peace with Justin after her illness," a source close to Selena told Us Weekly.

Apparently, Justin has been a great friend in the aftermath of Selena's transplant. "He has been great to her since her surgery and they are on good terms right now," the source continued. "They got back in touch recently through their friends and have seen each other at church."

Turns out it was their mutual church friends that convinced the pair it was time to put the past in the past. "Justin and Selena recently started speaking. I don't know when exactly but it's because of the same church they go to," another source revealed. "The community there is pretty tight-knit and Justin and Selena have a lot of mutual friends who brought them back together. They realized it was time to grow past their history and move on. They're grown up a lot in the past couple of years and are mature about the situation."

And Selena's current boyfriend The Weeknd is cool with their renewed friendship. "The Weeknd doesn't think Selena talking to Justin again is weird at all," the source revealed. "He doesn't care."
