A million hearts have shattered since the news of Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo's surprising divorce broke. The Korean drama superstars have cited "differences in personality" as the reason for their abrupt separation.

May 28, 2015: The couple attended their first script reading for the drama Descendants Of The Sun.
A few days after he was discharged from military service, Joong Ki attended the script reading of the military romance Descendants Of The Sun at the KBS headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul. Reports said that whenever there were romantic moments between Joong Ki and Hye Kyo's characters, people in the room made sweet comments and cheered!
June to December 2015: The pair worked on Descendants Of The Sun, their first drama together.

They were spotted on a dinner date in New York and on vacay in Bali, Indonesia. Their respective managements denied the rumors, saying that Joong Ki and Hye Kyo only saw each other as friends and colleagues.
June 3, 2016: They showed up at the Baeksang Arts Awards together looking very much in love.
The pair arrived hand in hand at the 52nd Baeksang Arts Awards. Descendants Of The Sun won the Grand Prize for television and the couple took home the Most Popular Actor and Actress award!
July 4, 2017: The couple confirmed that they were dating AND announced their engagement!
Through their respective talent agencies, Blossom Entertainment and United Artist Agency, Joong Ki and Hye Kyo made a surprise announcement that shocked the whole world! Part of the statement reads, "A marriage is not only a private matter but also a meeting between two families, so it was a delicate situation in many ways. There was no choice but to be cautious prior to marriage, and so we are at last conveying this message."
July 5, 2017: Joong Ki wrote a heartfelt message to fans, describing his relationship with Hye Kyo.
He shared that he was super nervous about writing the message and said that he will be starting a new life with Hye Kyo on October 31, 2017. Joong Ki wrote, "After the drama [Descendants Of The Sun], I gained another precious friend who I shared my honest feelings with, and we developed a loving relationship. At the start of 2016, we promised to spend the rest of our lives together by understanding each others' weaknesses and helping each other through harsh times."

May 28, 2019: During a press conference for his new drama series, Arthdal Chronicles, Joong Ki put the separation rumors to rest.
When asked about what's changed after he got married to Hye Kyo, he said, "There's nothing big that's changed... I could possibly call it gaining tranquility of the mind. I think that's something that's changed. Other married people might feel the same way."
He also said that Hye Kyo fully supported him with his new project: "This is my first drama in a long time, but she supported me by saying 'Do well by focusing until the end' and so it's thanks to her that I was able to finish it well."
June 27, 2019: The couple released statements announcing their divorce.
The couple ~officially~ broke our hearts when they confirmed that they were getting a divorce. "The reason [for the divorce] is differences in personality, and because the two were unable to overcome their differences, they were forced to come to this decision," Hye Kyo's management said. "We respectfully ask for your understanding in regards to the fact that we cannot confirm any further details out of respect for the two actors' personal lives."
