Taylor Swift and Justin Timberlake Win Big at the American Music Awards

The AMAs were held on November 24, 2013 at the Nokia Theater in LA.

Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, and Rihanna were among the big winners at the American Music Awards on November 24, 2013.

The "I Knew You Were Trouble" hitmaker earned the night's top prize for Artist of the Year and she also took home three additional awards, including Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist, Favorite Country Female Artist, and Favorite Country Album for "Red."

Meanwhile, "Mirrors" crooner Justin won three gongs following his hugely successful musical comeback earlier this year. His awards haul included Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist, Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist, and Favorite Soul/R&B Album for "The 20/20 Experience."

"Diamonds" singer Rihanna was overcome with emotion as she took to the stage to accept the first ever Icon Award at the tender age of 25, which was presented to her by her mother Monica Braithwaite.

Monica said: "I'm so proud of you. I know your journey hasn't been an easy one, but tonight I admire and applaud you for being so strong and so positive and so humble and so focused. It's amazing how you manage to take good from all your experiences."

Other big winners at the AMAs included boy band One Direction, with two awards: Favorite Pop/Rock Band and Favorite Pop/Rock Album for Take Me Home, Ariana Grande, who earned the New Artist of the Year prize, and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, with two awards for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album for "The Heist."

The star-studded bash, which took place at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, saw performances from Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Justin, Ariana, and more.
