Fifty years ago, on July 20, 1969, the world made history when humans finally landed on the moon, courtesy of the United States’ Apollo 11 mission. “That’s one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind,” said astronaut Neil Armstrong on the moon—and that line will forever be iconic.
And in case you don’t know how things come full circle, Gloria was asked in the Q&A portion, “In a day or so, a man will land on the moon. If a man from the moon landed in your hometown, what would you do to entertain him?”
Gloria replied with grace and wit, “Oh, just the same things I do. I think if he has been [on] the moon for so long, I think when he comes over he wants to change, I guess.”
To honor and celebrate her mom, Isabelle Daza created an amazing throwback post. She first shared a photo from the moon landing, then followed it up with a photo of Gloria as Miss Universe. She captioned it with a statement by then US President Richard Nixon: “The United States conquered the moon, but the Philippines conquered the Universe.”
