In an interview with The Washington Post, freelance stylist Tricia Kelly revealed that incoming US president Donald Trump’s ex-wife, Marla Maples, and their daughter, Tiffany Trump, asked if she’d be willing to prep them for the inauguration for free, Fashionista reports.
The negotiations began when Kelly gave her rates, which include an additional $150 for travel. But Maples found it too steep and that they had a "$300 budget for both of them for both hair and makeup." Finally, Kelly obliged and accepted the $200 charge for hair for both Maples and Trump. That is, until Maples’ assistant suggested she work for free in exchange for exposure and mentions on Maple’s social media accounts.
"I was stunned," Kelly explained. "I told them… I work for a fee, not for free." She added, "There are people who make far less than they do who pay full price… People on staff—the incoming White House and the outgoing one—pay full price. It seemed like they were trying to see how much they could get for free based on their names."
And that’s not all.
A client of Kelly’s with ties to the Trumps told her, "You are messing with the president of the United States." The client added that Maples was worried about her financial situation and that Tiffany "is used to a certain lifestyle."
