If you have an upcoming date with your boyfriend, there’s no better film to watch than How To Be Yours, Star Cinema’s latest romantic comedy starring Gerald Anderson and Bea Alonzo. With top-notch performances from its two leads, the film is a simultaneously heartwarming and heart-wrenching portrayal of the struggles that come with keeping a relationship afloat. It tells the story of Niño (Anderon) and Anj (Alonzo), a couple that must navigate the currents of passion and success that affect their love for one another.  It’ll make you laugh, it’ll make you cry, and it’ll send enough kilig vibes through your body that you’ll leave the cinema with a smile plastered on your face. Here are more reasons why you should check it out with your beau, stat!

It’s directed by Kilig King Dan Villegas

If you’re a fan of films like English Only, PleaseAlways Be My MaybeThe Breakup Playlist; and Walang Forever, then the romantic filmmaker’s most recent project is a definite must-see. He once again teams up with his Always Be My Maybe leading man and pairs him with the country’s most successful romantic leading lady. The result: an emotionally entertaining roller coaster ride!

It’s a straightforward romance

There are no bells and whistles here, just really good storytelling. There are no terminal illnesses that threaten one-half of the love team, or a third party that gets in between the relationship. Instead, the plot is focused on the everyday pressures that could weaken a romantic relationship, like career success, lack of time, or not coming through on promises. It’s a refreshing approach to a genre already saturated with tired tropes and sloppy gimmicks.

The cinematography and camerawork is ace!

The movie has some very interesting and impressive shots. One scene in particular, the now-infamous chandelier scene, will go down in local film history as one of the most imaginative uses of light and flares to set the mood of romance. There’s also an ingenious grocery scene that doubles as a means to convey the passage of time.

The chemistry between Gerald and Bea is indubitable

Don’t get your panties in a bunch, John Lloyd-Bea fanatics! Give this pairing a shot. Although Bea is far superior in terms of her acting prowess, Gerald does his best to keep up and play off her phenomenal silver screen presence. Oh and btdubs, CGs! There’s a Gerald Anderson torso money shot in there that’s a fan service for the ladies. *wink*
