Yeng Constantino Explains The Reason Why She's Taking Her Time Before Becoming A Mom

Yeng Constantino and her husband, Victor "Yan" Asuncion, have been together for over a decade, so it's understandable why fans have become curious about when they might start a family of their own.

But for Yeng, there's no rush. On a recent episode of Fast Talk With Boy Abunda, Boy Abunda asked Yeng about their plans for having children, and she simply said, "Marami pa po akong obligasyon."

Yeng explained that she still has responsibilities toward her family that she wants to fulfill before taking on motherhood. "Tito Boy, my mom passed away five years ago. So, nung bago po mamatay si Mama, ang talagang binilin po sa akin ay mga kapatid ko at saka si Papa."

It was also something the 37-year-old singer made sure to discuss with her partner, especially as she considered what their priorities were as a couple.

"So I [talked] to my husband. Sabi ko, 'Love, alam mo, kasi tayo yung binebless ni God eh. And ang daming dumarating na biyaya. I guess, yung way ng mama ko na ibinilin sa akin yung mga kapatid ko is talagang, kung bakit tayo binubuhusan ni Lord, meron siyang dahilan,'" she said.

Her family continues to be a major part of where she puts her time and energy. She shared, "For example Tito Boy, yung ate ko po nagka-cancer this year. So kami pong mag-asawa yung nagtutulungan dun. So, I think po kung meron man, kung will man ni Lord, kung mangyari po, okay. Pero right now, I'm just so happy na ako po yung naka-assign sa family ko to help them."

Yeng and Victor have been married since 2015, and their relationship has also inspired some of her most personal music. A year before their wedding, Yeng wrote her hit song "Ikaw," which she dedicated to Victor. The couple also starred together in its music video, which reportedly became their prenup video. And nearly a decade into their marriage, Yeng wrote another song about their relationship. In 2024, she released "Kung Uulitin," which she described as a reflection of the love they had built over the years.

Yeng recently celebrated her 20th anniversary in the music industry with her two-day Biyaheng Bente concert at the Araneta Coliseum on August 28 and 29. During the second night, she shared a heartfelt moment with Ryan Bang when she serenaded him with one of her songs.

The moment brought their longtime story back into the spotlight. ICYDK, in 2010, Yeng admitted that she had a crush on Ryan, and he eventually courted her. At the time, however, Yeng believed that Ryan had simply seen-zoned her.

But after the concert, the two finally had a chance to clear things up. Yeng told Boy that she reached out to Ryan after noticing that many people, including her handlers, were concerned about him. And she said that their conversation eventually gave her a better understanding of what had happened between them years ago.

"So, nagreply po siya sa akin, at Tito Boy, super happy ako kasi naging vulnerable siya sa akin. So I just want to also correct, Tito Boy, yung nasabi ko nung concert na sabi ko, na-seen-zoned ako. Kasi there's a deeper reason pala kaya kami nag-drift apart," she explained.

Ryan then revealed something Yeng apparently never knew about their past. Yeng continued, "Minessage niya 'ko, 'Alam mo ba yung reason non, kasi nag-aral ako magluto for you kasi hindi kita kayang ilibre.' Tapos sinabi ko sa kaniya, sa kaartehan ko talaga…sinabi ko kay Ryan na, 'Uy Ryan, pasensiya na, hindi kasi ako pumupunta sa bahay ng lalaki,'" Yeng recalled.

There was also a misunderstanding surrounding a trip Yeng took with her friends for a Bible study, where they stayed at a male friend's house. "Nagpunta kami ng Tagaytay. Parang bible group namin. So sa kaniya, sa isip [ni Ryan], 'Sabi mo hindi ka napunta sa bahay ng lalaki pero ba't ang kasama mong mag-out of town ay mga lalaki din.' So sabi ko sa kaniya, Tito Boy, salamat for opening up. At least mas naintindihan ko," she said.

With fans now invested in the story they never got to finish back in that year, Yeng said she's grateful that Victor has always been understanding. "Realistic ang aking asawa that this is my job at minsan po may mga ganitong nangyayari pero wala po siyang selos," she said.

She added, "Yun po yung grateful ako at talagang very ano siya, understanding po sa [akin.]”
