Okay, so this morning (in PH time) was the much-awaited High School Musical cast reunion for The Disney Family Singalong on ABC. Before it aired, the reunion made headlines because director Kenny Ortega confirmed that Zac Efron would be joining the cast!
If you remember, in 2016, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman, and Lucas Grabeel reunited for the movie's 10th anniversary. Zac was noticeably MIA, so it's totally understandable how fans freaked out at the possibility of him being in the singalong of "We're All In This Together".
Well, here's what happened: Zac was there, but ONLY TO INTRODUCE THE CAST. In a video, Zac said: "Hi everyone, I hope that you're safe and that you're healthy and that you're doing as well as possible during these unprecedented times. It's my greatest pleasure to introduce a musical performance by some of my oldest friends, and some new ones. I hope that you enjoy, and remember: We are all in this together." The screen cuts to host Ryan Seacrest, and then to the cast's pre-recorded performance.
"Wait y'all telling me that I WAITED all night for Zac Efron to reunite with his cast of HSM for him not to sing!?!?" one fan Tweeted. Another said: "Zac Efron says 'We're all in this together' but he's never with them together."

There's a plausible reason for this, of course: Kenny Ortega said in an interview: "We couldn't reach Zac until late but when we did, he immediately jumped in, of course. Everyone we reached out to was quick—and you'll see it in their spirit and the way they come together from their homes. They recognize this is an opportunity to strengthen spirits for those joining us for the broadcast."
