Just when you thought there couldn't possibly be any parts of your body left for society to make you worry about, it's been revealed that women are now spending a fortune on a brand new cosmetic enhancement—back dimple surgery. Oh god.
Venus dimples, which appear naturally in some womens' lower backs, have become a new desirable must-have thanks to models like Kendall Jenner and Miranda Kerr showing theirs off in low-cut dresses and bikinis.
And if you've got your own, you should be proud of them. Some women are splashing out five grand for them these days.
Apparently, back dimples are indicators of good health and a good sex life (wait, what?), but are tricky to achieve unless you're blessed with them naturally. Exercise doesn't do much towards them as it's all to do with where your two pelvic bones are connected.
So if you're not born with 'em, then you're gonna have to buy 'em. Sorry.
Dr. Amanda Wong-Powell, founder of W1 Wellness clinic located off Harley Street, has developed the "V-Spot" treatment specifically for perfecting the area, and has explained to the Daily Mail exactly how it works: "The V-spot is a curved diamond area in the back and is usually found naturally on the body of very sporty and athletic women, this is why a lot of women want to go under the knife to have their V-spot done because they want to look young and fit—think Jessica Ennis. The lower back has always been championed as a beautiful region of the female body," she said.
Apparently, while more and more women are also opting to go under the knife for the aesthetically perfect bum a la Kardashian, the ideal add-on to that while you're there is a sculpted lower back, too.
"One fails to look good without the other," Dr Wong-Powell added. Interested in how the science actually works?
"Using a short cannula (like a pencil) through a small incision less than 1cm across, the vibration and heat helps break down the fat from inside, and a suction cannula is then used to absorb the fat and sculpt the V spot area and dimples."
Priced from £4,900 (P125,000) upwards, the treatment sculpts a diamond shape and two dimples into the back using VASER liposuction, and is apparently painless. It's only in the first couple of days that you can expect some aching, but there's a general recovery time of around ten days with some help from a compression garment.
Sigh. What's next?
