With the rise of HIV-AIDS (Human Immunodeficiency Virus-Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) cases in the Philippines, there is a need to spread awareness and address the stigma surrounding the virus. Even more alarming: According to The Manila Times, data from the Philippine HIV/AIDS Registry showed that in January, 118 of the new HIV patients for 2014 alone belonged to the 15 to 24 age bracket.
December 1 marks World AIDS Day, and in line with this, The Red Whistle, a Pinoy HIV and AIDS awareness advocacy group, tapped TV personalities, artists, and models to participate in a guessing game similar to Pinoy Henyo. The subjects were asked to wear a headband with the words "HIV STATUS" written on it, which they had to guess. If they got it wrong, they would get slapped in the face.
Among the participants: Cosmopolitan Philippines' Editorial Director Myrza Sison, Cosmo's 8 Sexiest Models Jodilly Pendre and Katarina Rodriguez, Cosmo hunks Brent Javier and Adryan Hanson, Pia Magalona, Magic 89.9 DJ Riki Flores, and more!
The point of the game: It's easy to guess a word, but you can't guess your HIV status, so it is important for everyone to get checked for it.
