PSA, Freelancers: This Digital Payout Feature Lets You Keep More Of Your USD

If you've ever freelanced for a US-based client, then you know the struggle. Traditional banks like BPI and BDO also accept international USD wires, but fees typically range from  $6 tp $35, with transfers taking about three to five business days.

So, for Gen Z freelancers, the new Virtual US Account provides an alternative to receive payments more quickly and with fewer fees.

The GCash Virtual US Account is a new in-app feature that gives you a US account number and routing number, allowing you to receive USD from American clients, payroll platforms, and freelance marketplaces straight into GCash.

Depending on how your client sends the payment, fees and processing times vary: ACH (Automated Clearing House) transfers—the US equivalent of "direct deposit"—come with no fees and typically arrive within one to three business days, while wire transfers arrive on the same day but deduct a $15 fee from the incoming amount.

Setting up your Virtual US Account takes about five minutes, as long as you're a fully verified GCash user, a Philippine resident aged 18 or above, and your profile info is complete with at least one valid government-issued ID on file. Note: You can link only one US account to your GCash.

Here's how to set it up:

1. Open GCash and tap the "US Account" icon under "Explore the App" on your home screen.

2. Grant permissions for Meridian to use your verified GCash information. You can update the details if necessary.

3. Complete Meridian's quick KYC check using a valid ID (Passport, National ID, or Driver's License) plus a live selfie.

4. Wait around 2 minutes for account creation.

5. Once approved, you'll get your US routing and account numbers, which you can share with your US-based clients or platforms.
