Did You Know Angkas And Move It Offer Student Discounts? Here's How You Can Apply

Some students drive, some commute, and some rely on motorcycle taxi-hailing apps, like Angkas or Move It, to get to campus.

After all, everyone knows that motorcycles are one of the quickest ways to get to places, especially if your school is miles away and you're out of absences for your class with that terror prof. 🥲 It turns what would've been a 1.5-hour car ride into just a 30-minute motorcycle ride sans the traffic and for a reasonable price, too.

But even though the fares for motorcycle taxi-hailing apps are usually on the more affordable side, the price that shows up on screen is just a bit too big for a student on a budget to handle sometimes. But—and this is a big but—this is the part where I tell you about a surprisingly-not-that-publicized-yet-extremely-helpful secret: These two platforms actually offer student(!) discounts.

That's right, save the shocked gasps for later (don't worry, I was met with equal levels of surprise from literally all my friends I've talked to about this), because here's your guide on how to avail these discounts:

First, you have to fill out this application form. It'll only take five minutes—all you need is your registration form and school ID!

Typically, verification takes a few days, but you'll eventually receive a text informing you that you've successfully received the student discount.

From experience, though, sometimes, no one will get back to you. If the same thing happens to you, open your Angkas app, type "STUDENT" into the Promo section. If you were successful, watch as your total fare gets cut down by 20%!

Fill out the application form on Move It's official website. Like with Angkas, it'll only take a few minutes—all they need is your registration form and school ID!

Move It will send you an email with a unique voucher code for you to enter into the Offers section. The wait times differ, but I have a friend who received her code the same day she applied for it!

Unlike Angkas, you can only use your Move It code six times—but if you've used up your code, you can reapply, and they'll give you another one, no biggie!

A friend of mine shared the same concern, worried that if she used the discount, she'd have a harder time booking a ride.

From experience, though, it doesn't really change anything other than the fare, meaning you're still subject to the usual "oh-my-gosh-I-can't-book-anything" during rush hour and the "so-fast-I-don't-even-have-shoes-on-yet" ride confirmation during slow afternoons.

It's important to note that these discounts on Angkas and Move It only apply for the semester in which you applied for them. Unfortunately, you do have to reapply by the time next semester rolls around, but hey, 20% off an unlimited number of rides for a few months is so worth the five minutes you'll spend applying again.
