When you get home from work, especially after a long, hard day, sometimes you just don't have the energy to be creative in the kitchen. So, you reach for the ingredients you always have for days when you just need to whip something together to avoid skipping a meal. For some, it's a sandwich, or pancit canton, or maybe a simple rice + spam combo.
For me, it's pasta! All I have to do is boil some penne, pick between my favorite meat-flavored tomato sauce or ricotta pesto, and top it off with more cheese, and I'm set. When I want to exert more effort, I chop up some onions and garlic and heat it up with the sauce (but this rarely happens, tbh).
As it turns out, a good number of the world's population agrees with my life choices. According to a 25,000-person survey conducted by YouGov on what the best cuisine in the world is, Italian food took home the bacon. The respondents were from 24 different countries.
Given 34 cuisine choices, Italian food earned an average global score of 84 percent! Apart from Italy (duh), 94 percent of Spain's respondents said yaaassss to pizza and pasta, followed by France, Sweden, and Britain. The Philippines is also a big fan! These countries all gave Italian food a solid A (above 90 percent).
If you're wondering which countries were like, "I mean it's good, but it's not the best," you're looking at our friends from Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Thailand. China was not the biggest fan, giving Italian food an F (59 percent).
It's important to note that the poll doesn't take into consideration how readily available authentic versions of the 34 cuisines are in each country surveyed.
