The 2 Things You Should Do If You're Caught In A Terrorist Attack

You should not try and play dead.

Following last week's terrorist attacks in Paris, the U.K. National Counter Terrorism Security Office released a set of lockdown procedures for those who might find themselves in the midst of an attack. The memo includes step-by-step instructions to "reduce the number of potential casualties."

Firstly, the Security Office advises you run. If you are able to escape without putting yourself in greater danger, do so immediately. Insist others who are trapped come with you and leave your stuff behind. If escaping just isn't possible, it is suggested you hide.

Important tips about hiding: (1) If you can see the attacker, they may be able to see you, (2) not being able to see your attacker doesn't mean they can't see you, and (3) silence your phone.

The guidelines do not ever mention or suggest playing dead in an attack situation, something that at least one Parisian woman was able to do successfully last week.
