The Place To Be For Your Barkada Inuman This Weekend

Looking for a new place to hold your barkada party? Check out this cozy gimikan in Quezon City.

Thanks to the holiday rush and insane series of reunion dinners and holiday parties that everyone is attending all over the metro, your usual dining destinations and gimik spots are probably insanely crowded. And who wants that added stress, right? If you and your barkada are open to trying something new and would really prefer exchanging gifts and chika while having a very relaxed inuman in a homey atmosphere till the wee hours of the morning, then you may want to check out Seventy Seven Cafe at Kamuning, Quezon City, very near Tomas Morato.

This quaint old house turned into a cozy restaurant offers a selection of delectable and affordable comfort food and drinks. Be sure to try their specialties that include the buttered chicken (P195), salmon parmesan (P220), shrimp kilawin (P200), and pizza margherita (P185), which you can enjoy best with ice-cold beer. They have a wide selection of cocktails and flavored beer, too.

Expect to shell out around P250 to P300 per person (or more, if it's for mahaba-habang inuman). A group of five can drink and enjoy their pulutan at a measly price of P1,000 for the entire group.

Doy Lagos, whose family owns Seventy Seven, reveals that his family didn't have any experience in the restaurant business before they opened the place. "We just love to eat and drink. Our family regularly gathers every Saturday. Sometimes, sa labas pa kami nagse-setup. Napansin na lang namin na maraming tumitigil na kotse kasi akala nila restaurant ‘yung lugar namin. The idea just popped [into our heads] na pwede pala naming pagkakitaan ang love namin for food."

The first location of Seventy Seven was at 77 Dona Hemady in New Manila, Quezon City (hence the name), but later moved to a two-storey house in Kamuning-where Millenia Bar used to be located. Much of the elements in the house-like the flooring and woodwork-were retained but a few renovations were done to accomplish the "homey" effect that the original Seventy Seven was already known for. The few repaints and some add-ons (couches, pin lighting, and terra cotta colored walls) definitely paid off, too, as it gave the place a welcoming ambiance that its loyal clients keep coming back to.

Seventy Seven Cafe Resto is located at 51 Kamuning Road, Quezon City, Philippines, in front of Caltex gas station. It's open from Monday to Saturday (4PM to 4AM) and Sunday (4PM to 1AM). The photo shoot of October 2009 Cosmo Online Hunk John Cruz was also held at Seventy Seven.
