Must Save Up For: Luxe Trip To Boracay

It's barely the middle of the week and you're already so stressed. Daydream about going on a trip to this luxury resort in Boracay--and make it come true!
A place synonymous to hard drinking and all-night partying, the famed beaches of Boracay never fail to make it to your top summer destination each year. But who knew that there's a lot more to this island than the tempting happy hour you can enjoy at every corner?

For starters, a new property that opened on the shores of the island is gaining much popularity from all over the world. Shangri-La had opened the year-old Shangri-La's Boracay Resort and Spa, a sprawling 12-hectare property at the northernmost tip of the island with 219 rooms and villas to its name. This is a serene and tranquil side of Boracay that not a lot of people had seen before; if it's an escape from the maddening hustle and bustle of the city that you're after, then you wouldn't want to leave this place the moment you set foot on it.

Rest And Relaxation...Right From The Onset
Just getting to the resort is a whole new experience altogether. If going to Boracay meant taking an hour-long plane ride, then a two-hour drive from Kalibo to the Caticlan port, plus a 20-minute boat ride to Boracay's jetty port, and another ride going straight to your chosen accommodation, then it's a completely different story for Shangri-La guests. Airport representatives are at the front line and center, waiting for you the moment you step off the plane to take you to the resort's exclusive lounge, the Mabuhay Center located in Caticlan. After cooling down from a tiring trip with refreshments and cold towels duly served by the staff, guests are whisked straight off to the resort's own jetty port via a 20-minute speedboat ride, no less.

The main lobby is already a sight to behold, with cascading fountains and a panoramic view of the ocean that greet guests upon arrival. The staff is bedecked in impressive Rajo Laurel creations, with earth tones and pastel hues combined artistically to enhance the island feel.

Rooms go from a Deluxe Room, Deluxe Seaview Room, to a Seaview Suite, all facing the sea with a fantastic view of the sunset. One- to two-bedroom pool villas are top favorites, while loft villas and tree villas perched at the resort's higher grounds are bestsellers for the sweeping ocean vista it offers. Service is great, too, as every need and request you make are taken care of in a snap, making you feel right at home from the get-go.

Find What You're Craving
Apart from the resort's grandeur and awe-inspiring architecture, Shangri-La's Boracay Resort and Spa offers a variety of wining and dining options to suit whatever you have a taste for. The Lobby Lounge is for cooling down with a cup of tea or a glass of your favored cocktail while drinking in the fantastic view of the ocean. Vintana is the all-day dining restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets of Eastern and Western influences. The Hainanese Chicken Rice deserves special mention, and the dessert buffet is two thumbs up for those with the sweetest of teeth.

The resort's freeform pool is a crowd favorite among guests. Cielo is the popular poolside restaurant serving the yummiest pizzas and sandwiches (the Parma Ham Pizza is a must try!), while nothing beats having a cold glass of beer while soaking up the sun at Alon, the poolside bar.

If you're craving for the freshest ocean catch, Sirena is the signature seafood restaurant that will not disappoint. Absolute must-trys are the Tempura Nori Tuna Loin and the Mud Crab Pasta, finished with Hot Chocolate Espuma for dessert. Solana is the bar counterpart, with a breathtaking view of the sunset from the outdoor cabanas. Tapas and sangria are the bestsellers. Ask the bartender for a special mix of Strawberry Mojitos for a unique citrus kick.

The first fine-dining Italian restaurant is Rima, strategically situated closer to nature at the resort's higher grounds. The restaurant is open for dinner, and food there has got to be some of the best on the island. The risotto appetizers are big favorites, followed by a main course of the Snapper Pie, arguably the best dish on the menu. Pair your meal with a glass of Italian wine, and it couldn't get any finer than that. A bite of Tiramisu is recommended to end a lip-smacking course.

Pampering At Its Finest
Since the beach is the perfect place to get a nice and relaxing massage, you wouldn't have to go far with Shangri-La's Chi Spa. A haven of sorts, with the soothing aroma of refreshing Pomelo-Calamansi scent, Shangri-La Boracay's Chi Spa village is the ultimate sanctuary if it's a complete body and mind relaxation you're looking for. The health buffs need not miss out on their workout routines with the resort's Health Club, which is fully-equipped with state-of-the-art amenities and Jacuzzi, which is complimentary for guests. A tennis court is available for those looking for outdoor action.

Being in Shangri-La's Boracay Resort and Spa feels like being in a world within a world, a completely different side of Boracay unlike what you have been accustomed to for years. It's a unique Boracay getaway; there is absolute solitude, luxury, and privacy that will allow you to fully recharge from the absolutely stress of your job and city life.
