Cosmo did not only spot fashionable ladies and Barbie dolls when we attended the exhibit cum ballet featuring the best-loved fashion doll of all time. Local celebrities and fashion mavens also gathered for the event, and we gamely spotted them all for you.
In celebration of its 40th season, Ballet Philippines partnered with Barbie, who just celebrated 'her' 50th anniversary last year, and 40 of the country's best designers. In this joint venture called "Ballet Barbie," dance blended beautifully with fashion. Not only did the designers get to create one-of-a-kind couture pieces for over 200 Barbie dolls, they also got to give back to the community. Headed by its President, former Miss Universe Margie Moran Floirendo, Ballet Philippines donated proceeds from the auctioned dolls to 35 scholars of the Ballet Philippines Scholarship program.
John Silva and Tessa Prieto-Valdes, two of the most influential people in the arts, hosted the live auction event. Over 20 Barbie dolls were up for bidding that night, and the rest were set aside for the silent auction. Local designers like Pitoy Moreno, Ivarluski Aseron, Alex Bitong, Rhett Eala, Rajo Laurel, Cary Santiago, Joel Escober, Jojie Lloren, Cesar Gaupo, and Eric de Los Santos were among the 40 who created exquisite pieces of art for Barbie to wear. Each tiny piece of couture portrayed their unique interpretation of Ballet Barbie.
Their showbiz colleagues attended the event to show their support, including Gretchen Barretto, Joey Mead, and comedian Jon Santos.
