Jamie Lim clinched the country’s second karate gold medal at the 2019 SEA Games on December 9 at the World Trade Center in Pasay.

According to a report from CNN Philippines, Jamie defeated Indonesia’s Georgia Zefanya, 2-1, in the final of the women’s Karatedo +61 kg category. Over the weekend, Junna Tsukii won the first karate gold in the women’s -50 kg division.

Jamie’s gold medal win at the 2019 SEA Games is a special one as she stopped competing for four years to focus on her studies and only came back to her sport in July 2019. Here’s another amazing fact about Jamie: In June 2019, Jamie graduated summa cum laude and valedictorian from the University of the Philippines College of Science after completing her degree in Mathematics.

According to a report from ABS-CBN News, Jamie dedicated her academic achievement to her mom, while her SEA Games gold is for her father, Philippine Basketball Association legend, Samboy Lim. The gold medalist said, "Summa cum laude for mom, SEA Games gold is for dad. To even come close to [Samboy], to be compared to him and mom, it's so big for me. Today is so special for me."
