In a report published by Spin.ph today, June 3, professional basketball players Jeron Teng of Alaska, Norbert Torres of Rain or Shine, and former De La Salle University player Thomas Torres have sustained wounds due to stabbing.
Jeron was stabbed three times in the back, while Norbert and Thomas were stabbed in the arm.
According to the report, the incident happened on Saturday, June 2, in a parking lot in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig. A similar report on ABS-CBN News states that the incident happened near the bar Early Night at 2:30 a.m.
Spin.ph states that CCTV footage from last night shows that the athletes were "jeered, triggering the fight."
According to ABS-CBN News, one of the suspects, a man named Edmar Manalo, 40, has been arrested. Another man named Randy Casila, 36, has also been identfiied, but there have been no reports on his wherabouts.
Jeron, Norbert, and Thomas, who were teammates in De La Salle University's UAAP bastketball team Green Archers, were brought to St. Luke's Medical Center after the attack. They are currently recovering from their wounds.
As of press time, no report has been made regarding the reason behind the confrontation.
Update, June 3, 3:50 p.m.: According to a new report on Spin.ph, there were three suspects, and all have been arrested. They claim that they acted in self-defense.
Jeric Teng, the older brother of Jeron, debunks the claim, arguing, "Lahat sila may deep cut. For me, why would you bring a knife? Kung sinabi mong self-defense, bugbugin mo."
On the status of his brother, Jeric says, "He was very lucky kasi pwedeng matamaan yung vital organs. Buti [walang natamaan]. Jeron is recovering. He was stitched up pero ang dami pa ring dugo, eh. He needs to be operated again and further examined."
Jeric states that his family, as well as the families of Norbert and Thomas, will press charges against the assailants.
