In his recent Fast Talk With Boy Abunda chat, the actor shared his thoughts on being a father to his five-year-old son. "Napaka-swerte ko diyan. Ang lupit 'nung naging role niya sa buhay ko, 'nung dumating na siya," John Lloyd said.
It was in 2018 when Ellen got pregnant with Elias—that was a couple of months after John Lloyd announced his indefinite break from showbiz back in 2017. "Si Elias parang niligtas niya 'yung buhay ko," John Lloyd began explaining. "Hindi ko ma-imagine 'yung buhay ko kung paano magtutuloy kung hindi dumating si Elias," he furthered.
Elias was a breath of fresh air for John Lloyd. The proud father says that his son is someone who gave new meaning to his life, leading to a fresh restart for John Lloyd at that time. "Ang dami niyang binigay na bago... bagong kahulugan, bagong duties. All of a sudden iba na 'yung tingin mo sa lahat," the actor detailed.
When it comes to co-parenting with Ellen and Derek, John Lloyd admitted that it's not easy. It's not because of the couple's stances toward him, but more of the whole scenario of raising a child altogether. "That's a bit of a challenge, ayokong i-sugarcoat... Marami diyan 'yung similar cases na kagaya sa akin, much much lesser 'yung time with the child or halos no time at all," John Lloyd remarked.
With the struggles of being a parent, he greatly appreciates Ellen and Derek for always thinking of Elias' welfare. "Napakaswerte ko at ako ay nagpapasalamat kay Ellen at Derek dahil iniisip nila 'yung kapakanan ng bata," the actor expressed.
In the past, Ellen got candid on how much John Lloyd's financial support was for Elias. She revealed that the actor insisted on giving at least P20,000 to their son. "When he asked me, how much does Elias need, I gave him a breakdown of his basic needs—just his basic needs—and that's P10,000 max. But he insisted on doubling it," Ellen disclosed.
While Derek has always been vocal about his relationship with his stepson, he assured John Lloyd of giving Elias all the love he can give as a father as well. "I told John Lloyd that his son is always going to be safe when he’s with me," Derek shares in a recent interview. "I adore this boy. I hate using the word stepson, I think he’s my son."
