When iconic celebrity couples break up, it seems like everyone's faith in true, lasting love is shaken a little bit. And even though, for the most part, these celebrities move on— the rest of us might need some more time.
Case in point: Juan Karlos’ latest mega hit song “ERE” has been the talk of the town for its heartbreaking lyrics, alluding to the pain of being abandoned by someone you loved.
Over on social media, fans have been using the song to ~*reminisce*~ memories of our favorite ex-lovebirds who already went their separate ways, causing our hearts to break all over again. From James Reid and Nadine Lustre to Julia Barretto and Joshua Garcia, here are the celebrity break-ups that, in our wish, didn’t happen in an alternate universe.
Juan Karlos and Maureen Wroblewitz
"Magka-ibigan na ngayo’y matalik na magkaibigan," Juan Karlos captioned a photo of him and Maureen when they announced their ~*amicable*~ breakup in June last year. "Lagi mong tandaan na kahit pagbaliktarin mo man ang mundo, kahit saang lupalop man ng kalawakan, ikaw parin ang nagiisa kong buwan. Maraming salamat, mahal kita, at hanggang sa muli," he added. BRB, still crying.
Nadine Lustre and James Reid
It's been a while (almost four years now, can you believe?!) since JaDine ended their real-life romance, but their legions of fans still hold dear memories of the famed love team's ~*kilig*~ moments together. “It’s true that we have split up, but not for all the reasons that are being spread on the tabloids and social media, but because after quiet and mature conversations, we decided to focus on ourselves not only for our careers but more for our personal growth as we are still young and we want to achieve as much as we can," read their ~*heartbreaking*~ joint statement last 2020.
Gretchen Ho and Robi Domingo
In 2017, news that the two hosts and former Ateneo alums called it quits shocked their fans, citing scheduling and career conflicts as their breakup reason. “Siguro unfair kung hindi ko pagbibigyan ang trabaho ko na kailangan kong mahalin pero mas magiging unfair kung hindi ko maibibigay 'yung time na deserve niya. Personally, mas bibigyan namin ng priority kung ano ang nangyayari sa buhay namin kasi ito 'yung hinintay namin," Robi said in an interview.
Julia Barretto and Joshua Garcia
Whenever we're in need of a good cry, we just watch the Paubaya music video starring these two ex-lovers for all the ~*feels*~. It takes us back to 2019, when Julia confirmed the news of her fallout with her leading man, assuring fans of keeping the friendship between them despite it: "Babalik muna kami sa pinagsimulan namin. We're now best of friends. We managed to be the bestest of friends and if the fans are worried, we can assure them that there is nothing to worry about. JoshLia is very much alive."
