My name is Mell Mampang and I am 33 years old. My fashion industry screen name is Mell E. Stevenson. Fashion styling and photography are my dream jobs. I'm hoping to become the next Rachel Zoe, Liz Uy, or Donna Cuna-Pita. What school can you recommend so I can pursue this career? I am actually working full-time right now as a Franchise Manager in Taguig, so time is an issue for me. Nonetheless, I'm willing to manage it. I would like to hear your thoughts on this, Miss Donna. Thank you so much.
I find it really admirable that you're so passionate about pursuing your dream of becoming a fashion stylist! There are many avenues for you to get started in the industry. First would be, as you mentioned, to apply for fashion styling courses in our local fashion schools. Since you have a full-time job, you can choose their short-term or weekend courses. You can check out SOFA in Makati. They offer short modules during summer and even some weekend workshops. Another option would be to intern for a stylist. This way, you'll get to see how it really is to do a fashion shoot, establish a network of contacts, and also learn from someone already in the business.
Thanks for writing! Let us know how it goes. : )
You can now get advice straight from our Fashion Director, Donna Cuna-Pita. For your style inquiry, send your name, age, and question to Donna with the subject "Fashion 101." Email her at firstname.lastname@example.org. She'll answer one question every week!
