Raise your hand if you can relate: Being told by your mom that she used to own the exact things you're wearing in 2017—and that, of course, she didn't bother keeping any of them to hand down to you years later. High-waist jeans? Check. Off-shoulder tops? Yes, definitely. Graphic tees that would actually be vintage (and not just pretending to be)? You bet.
One girl whose mom actually had the hindsight to preserve her ~retro~ wardrobe, however, just went to prom in the exact dress her mom wore in 1995. And it fit her like a glove.
According to Huffington Post, Lori Johnson attended prom over twenty years ago in a glittery black midi dress. Now, in 2017, her daughter Ally took it out for another spin, after her original choice fell through. "I dug the dress out and tried it on, and I loved it instantly," Ally told the online publication. "I was surprised because my mom had a very different build than I did when she was in high school.”
The major difference? Since Ally shared side-by-side photos of her and her mom on Twitter, their story has been liked over 3,000 times. We can bet Lori's own prom night never reached that level of hype and recognition, at least with complete strangers.
