During these trying times, private sectors are helping out the government and community to control the spread of COVID-19, the virus that has claimed thousands of lives all over the world. The World Health Organization has declared it a pandemic.
One of the companies that are willing to extend a helping hand is San Miguel Corporation (SMC). President and Chief Operating Officer Ramon S. Ang assured the public that they have enough raw materials to produce food. "We will operate our food facilities 24/7. This isn’t about making profits. We have a responsibility to make sure that food is made available to as many people as possible," Ang said. He also assured that SMC will distribute food to areas to poor communities and workers who are affected by the COVID-19 crisis.
Aside from food, SMC aims to answer the shortage of alcohol sanitizers. They will produce their own 70 percent ethyl alcohol to be donated to communities through local government units and hospitals. Their own formulation is already being used by their employees, but they still need government clearance to distribute it to the public. "We have the means and the capability to produce this and make it available for free to LGUs and public hospitals," Ang explained.
SMC revealed that they also give out disinfectant powders to LGUs that they can use in livestock farms and other facilities that may need the cleansing products.
(Ed's note: Washing your hands with soap and water is still the best defense to viruses. If you are feeling unwell, please see a health professional ASAP.)
