Here’s some interesting beauty news: women in the UK are reportedly using their own urine to get rid of acne and score better skin, according to Telegraph. Yep, you read that right!
How does it work? So you take a cotton pad with your urine, and use it as you would a toner or a spot treatment cream.
Because the trend seems too ridiculous to be true, Refinery29 did their research and contacted NYC-based dermatologist Dr. Neal Schultz. According to Dr. Schultz, urine is composed of 95 percent water and the next highest component is urea, which can supposedly act an an exfoliant.
It is important to note, however, that urine usually has a urea component of less than five percent, while commercial creams—that actually work—contain a concentration of 10-15 percent. That means urine isn’t really doing much for the skin.
So before you go and wipe your urine onto your face, consider the fact that you have A TON of options available in the market to get better skin. And if you want to go au naturel, try using tea tree oil, apple cider vinegar, or honey instead.
