In what might possibly be the most exciting book announcement for young people/nostalgic adults of the last five years, it's been officially confirmed that there will be a BRAND NEW HARRY POTTER BOOK arriving in bookshops this July. We know. It's almost too much too handle.
Don't panic. It's not an entire gloomy rewriting of Harry and Ginny's future designed to destroy our dreams, or a disturbing vision of Ron on Tinder (as Rupert Grint so cruelly predicted).
Nope, it's a book version of the new play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. HOORAY.
Parts of JK Rowling's script will be published by Little Brown UK, to be released on the 31st of July—one day after the play opens at the Palace Theatre in the West End. Pottermore will also be unleashing an e-book version for any monsters who don't enjoy the feel of paper.
For those not fully caught up on all variations of Harry Potter entertainment, both the play and the book follow Harry, Ron, and Hermione 19 years after we last saw them in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The story also covers previously unknown details from Harry's life, including what his parents got up to when they were still around.
The publishers of the new book say they decided to release the script in book form after a LOAD of fan demand—especially from those who don't live in London, so won't be able to pop along to the West End to see the play.
In short: Commence excitement. We're getting our first new Harry Potter book in YEARS.
