Amber Liu Of K-Pop Girl Group f(x) Announces Departure From SM Entertainment

It's a sad day for K-pop fans.

Amber Liu of K-pop girl group f(x) announced on Instagram that she has decided to part ways with SM Entertainment.

Posting on September 1, Amber wrote her announcement in both English and Korean. She said, “I would like to announce my contract with SM Entertainment has ended today and I have decided to part ways with the company.”

Her post continued, “From the bottom of my heart, I’d like to thank everyone who believed in me and have been so patient with me all these years. I can’t wait to show you what’s in store in this next chapter of my career.”

Amber debuted with f(x) in 2009. Originally a five-piece group, Sulli was the first to leave in August 2015, followed by Amber’s departure in 2019. The current lineup of the girl group consists of Viktoria, Luna, and Crystal.

The electronica and synthpop group was named as one of the 10 best K-pop girl groups of the past decade by Billboard magazine in 2017, joining the ranks of other well-known groups like 2NE1, Wonder Girls, and Girls’ Generation.
