At the 2019 ABS-CBN Ball yesterday, Angel Locsin was a no-show. The actress explained her absence on Instagram. She wrote, “I salute my friends at the ABS-CBN Ball who are doing their share to promote awareness on children’s rights and to help the beneficiaries of Bantay Bata 163 get the education that everyone deserves.”
She continued, “As for me, I decided to do my share in a way that I could probably be more of use. I think it would be better for me to donate directly to Bantay Bata the amount that I’m supposed to spend [for] the ball. It’s not much, but [it] will help make a difference [in] someone else’s life.”
The 2019 ABS-CBN Ball, which also celebrates ABS-CBN’s 65th anniversary, aims to raise funds for the Bantay Edukasyon program of Bantay Bata 163. As the name suggests, Bantay Edukasyon seeks to improve the lives of indigent children by giving them access to education and scholarships.
The actress ended her post with a call to action: “For those who would like to help a child have a bright future, please donate to Bantay Bata 163.”
Angel is no stranger to directly helping people in need. In 2017, when the Marawi Siege broke out, Angel handed food and school supplies to people taking refuge in various camps and evacuation centers. In June 2019, When she reached five million followers on Instagram, she celebrated the milestone by giving free education to 31 students. She has said, "I believe that education is one of the best gifts we can share [with] others and that empowered individuals can help shape a bright future."
Angel is one of Cosmopolitan Philippines' Women of Influence awardees this year for her humanitarian endeavors.
