Binibining Pilipinas candidate Cinderella Faye Obeñita made waves last night after her *striking* performance during the Q&A round! Her question was asked by renowned Filipino designer Michael Cinco: "How important are luxury items like bags, clothes, and jewelry for a woman, when the national economy is down and struggling?"
Cinderella Obeñita's Binibining Pilipinas answer:
"In life, we always find ourselves in a crossroad of choices. Women always have a choice—whether to prioritize luxury items while we are facing a pandemic, and also we have a choice to embrace the concept of a new beautiful, which is responsive to the needs of the time, adaptive to the change of times. I think I would choose to be that woman who understands the problems of the Philippines, the problems of my community, so that we would be able to uplift each other. I would be that kind of woman, who would comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable."
What a *kween*! Needless to say, her answer struck a chord with many Pinoys. "It's 12 o'clock and Cinderella dropped not her shoe but THE DAMN MIC," one pageant fan wrote on Twitter. Another said: "Cinderella is tired [of] being a princess, she wants to be a queen!"
25-year-old Cinderella Obeñita, who represented Cagayan De Oro-Misamis Oriental, was crowned Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental 2021. According to the Binibining Pilipinas website, she works as a tourism operations officer and her advocacies are cervical cancer awareness and prevention, as well as press freedom.
Fun fact: During the competition's Top 12 announcement, Cinderella was called as the thirteenth finalist (also known as the "wildcard") after winning the People's Choice Award!
Because of her name, witty memes about Cinderella have also been circulating on social media—all fairy tale and fairy godmother-related, of course.
