  • Camila Cabello just dropped her newest single, “Easy.”
  • Some of these lyrics definitely sound like they're about her boo thang, Shawn Mendes!

In case you didn’t notice, Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes are in the relationship of a lifetime right now. Everyone high-key thought their relationship was a PR stunt at first, but it looks like they’re in it for the long haul...especially since they’ll probably be staying together through cuffing season. And since they’re both musicians, being in love with each other is the perfect bait for new material, amirite?

Camila is now counting down the release of her sophomore album, aptly titled Romance (which is set to release in January). To tease fans with what to expect from the record, Camila straight-up confirmed that a few of the songs are actually about Shawn. Her exact words? “Toward the end [of recording], there were [songs about Shawn]—yeah, yeah,” she said during an interview on Lorraine. Alright, I know it’s not the biggest of confirmations, but it’s something! That being said, Camila just dropped her newest single, “Easy,” and it totally talks about her love for Shawn. Let’s dissect!'

    Camila Cabello - Easy (Audio)

    You really, really know me
The future and the old me
All of the mazes and the madness in my mind
    You really, really love me
You know me and you love me
And it’s the kind of thing I always hoped I’d find (yeah)

“You really, really know me / The future and the old me” likely refers to Camila and Shawn’s history. Before they started dating, Shawn and Camila were friends for five (!!!) whole it’s pretty safe to say that Shawn knows the old Camila well and that he’ll likely know the future Camila as they continue to grow in their relationship.

In the Lorraine interview, Camila also opened up about Shawn and briefly touched on their history. “I’m so happy,” she said. “I mean, I have known him for such a long time, and I don’t know, he just feels like home to me, so yeah, I’m really happy.” So it’s #confirmed that the future me/old me lyrics are (most likely) about Shawn!

The last line of the pre-chorus details Camila’s previous longing for true love, and she shared how she feels now that she has finally found it. In Elle’s Women in Music issue, Camila said she didn’t really know what love was like until last year. “Honestly, this past year and a half was the first time I really experienced falling in love with another person,” she said. “I’ve loved people from afar, but falling in love with someone and having feelings for someone but they don’t know…it’s different.”

Always thought I was hard to love
Till you made it seem so easy, seem so easy
Always thought I was hard to love
Till you made it seem so easy, seem so easy
Touch me till I find myself, in a feeling
Tell me with your hands that you’re never leaving (no)
Always thought I was hard to love
Till you made it seem so easy (seem so easy)

Camila took to Instagram to give more insight on what the lyrics are about. She wrote:

“I wrote this song about the kind of love that makes you love yourself more. I think before you open up to someone, you always feel scared that once they see all the stuff you don’t like about yourself, all the things you’re insecure about, that they won’t like you anymore—and when someone sees those things and loves you not only in spite of them but because of them, it makes you feel truly seen for who you are and loved for who you are too. I hope you like ‘easy.’”
