Sad news. Veteran actress and queen of Philippine movies, Susan Roces, has passed away. She was 80 years old.
On the evening of May 20, 2022, Senator Grace Poe took to social media to announce the death of her adoptive mother.
"With great sadness, we announce the loss of our beloved Jesusa Sonora Poe, whom many of you know as Susan Roces," Grace wrote in a Facebook post. "She passed away peacefully on a Friday evening, May 20, 2022, surrounded by love and warmth, with her daughter Grace, her nephews Joseph and Jeffrey, and many of her family and close friends. She lived life fully and gracefully. Remember her in her beauty, warmth, and kindness."
Celebs offered their condolences and honored Susan's memory with fondness.
"Rest in eternal love and light, our dear queen," wrote singer-actor Ice Seguerra.
"Sa isang taong hindi ko akalaing magiging nanay/lola ko sa industriya, Tita Susan," read Bianca Manalo's tearful IG post. sharing her photos with the late actress. "Hinding-hindi ko po makakalimutan lahat ng pinagsamahan natin. Ikaw parati ang kausap at kinukulit ko kapag pagod at puyat na tayo."
Bianca noted how Susan would buy her favorite snacks like kiamoy and cheese during tapings, fattening everyone on set with her candy, frozen fruit, and jellies. Bianca and Susan worked together on FPJ's Ang Probinsyano.
Meanwhile, Judy Ann Santos, who also worked with Susan on the same series, wrote in an IG post, "Nakakalungkot... Pero nagpapasalamat ako sa pagkakataong makilala at makasama ang nag-iisang reyna ng pelikulang Pilipino."
"Yung pag-spoil mo sa 'kin sa taping ng [FPJ's Ang] Probinsyano, yung masarap at mahigpit mong yakap tuwing nagkikita tayo... Yung malutong na tawa mo at tapang ng loob sa maraming bagay... At higit sa lahat, yung tunay na pagmamahal at pakikipag-kapwa-tao ang mga bagay na hinding-hindi ko makakalimutan."
