How Different Is 'Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina' From Past Adaptations?

It's...a LOT spookier.

It's Halloween! Well, almost. And that means ~spooky~ shows are coming our way, including the new Netflix series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina based on the comic book series Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Remember that TV adaptation starring Melissa Joan Hart? Or the Sabrina animated series? This one's going to be totally different!

Sabrina is still a teenager who lives with her two aunts. And we still get to see her cat Salem. But other than that, it's definitely not something you'd want kids to see...yet. Here are some of the differences that we spotted, plus new details to look forward to:

1. It's not a light show.

On her sixteenth birthday, half-mortal and half-witch Sabrina Spellman (played by Kiernan Shipka) has to choose between two worlds: her human side or her witch side. Based on the trailer, there's a very exciting, dark vibe to the show, including a coming-of-age ritual, a dark lord, and an actual witches' circle.

2. Salem's going to be a *real* cat!

3. There might be cannibalism (gasps).

In the comic book series, Sabrina's aunts occasionally partake in eating, um, human flesh and fans are wondering if we'll get to see this side of them in the live-action reboot.

Here's a recent Instagram post from lead actress Kiernan (is that supposed to be...blood?):

4. The OG "Sabrina" is all for it!

Melissa Joan Hart, who played Sabrina in the original series, supports the reboot! During an interview for Digital Spy, she said, "I think they're doing it in a smart way—change it up, don't make it the same. If you're going to do the same show, it probably would fall on its face, but I think what they're doing is probably the smartest way to reboot something."

5. There ~might~ be a Riverdale crossover.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is created and produced by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the same amazing brain behind Riverdale. We're keeping our fingers crossed for this one!

The show premieres on October 26! Watch the trailer below:
