Everyone Has Been Pronouncing This Harry Potter Character's Name Wrong For Years, Says J.K. Rowling

This whole time everyone's been saying it wrong.

What sorcery is this? J.K. Rowling dropped a stunning little bomb on fans on Wednesday when she reminded people of how to correctly pronounce the name of a very important character, Time reports.

In a discussion about Harry Potter trivia, J.K. backed up this point about the correct pronunciation of "Voldemort."

Yes, the "t" in Voldemort is silent. "But I'm pretty sure I'm the only person who pronounces it that way," J.K. said on Twitter.

Yes, if you've been pronouncing it Voldemort with the "t" sound at the end,  you're doing it all wrong. He doesn't seem to happy about that.

This isn't the first she's clarified this point either. In 1999 at a book signing in Orange County, J.K. answered a fan who asked about the correct way to say He Who Shall Not Be Named's name. "I say 'Voldemor' but I'm the only one," she told the fan. Makes sense too, because mort in French roughly translated means dead or death. Yikes.
