You Guys, There's Going To Be A 'Hamilton' Movie Starring The Original Broadway Cast

Hamilton fans, how lucky we are to be alive right now—the Tony Award-winning musical finally has a movie release date! The 2015 Broadway musical will hit movie theaters on October 15, 2021.

Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote the musical and starred as American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, said the movie will feature the original Broadway cast. The original members include Leslie Odom Jr. as Aaron Burr, Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson, and Renee Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler, who all won Tony awards for their Hamilton roles.

Over the years, there have been changes in the cast as the musical toured the U.S. and headed to London’s West End. Rachelle Ann Go played Elizabeth Schuyler in West End, and Filipino-Japanese actor Marc de la Cruz played Alexander Hamilton on Broadway.

Presented by Disney, the movie was filmed at Broadway’s Richard Rodgers Theatre in 2016, according to Vanity Fair. Lin-Manuel, who starred in Mary Poppins Returns and wrote music for Moana, is “excited” to work with the company again. “I’m so proud of what [director] Tommy Kail has been able to capture in this filmed version of Hamilton—a live theatrical experience that feels just as immediate in your local movie theater.”
