If you're a Grey's Anatomy fan still reeling from the devastating, world-ending death of Patrick Dempsey's character, Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd, there may be some hope for you. Well, probably not, but let's go with whatever sliver of hope we can cling to right now.
A true hero has started a very important Change.org petition asking executive producer Shonda Rhimes to "Bring Back McDreamy." The petition's creator, Courtney Williams, lays out a very good case for why Shonda needs to forget this whole "died in a car crash" thing and get back to bringing us the Eyes of Patrick Dempsey every week:
This is important because you cannot have people invest a DECADE into a character and then you just terminate them like that! You have people out here donating blood and organs trying to save lives, wanting to become doctors and all from committing to this television show..just to let us down like this. You've destroyed us. COMPLETELY!
Williams states that she would rather see McDreamy's character turned into an adulterer who cheats on Meredith rather than see him dead. She writes that killing off Lexie and McSteamy was unbearable enough on its own, but taking away McDreamy is the third and final strike.
Then the WAY you chose to build up the anticipation and kill him off?!?CRUELTY! You do not have us hating him, to show up that he is the good guy that we have always believed him to be, then have him say he's coming home to his family, wanting to add more to the family, then he leaves and saves the day! You bring back his infamous words, 'Its a beautiful day to save lives," have him wrap a girls intestines in dry cleaning wrap then kill him off like that! Oh and dont even get me started on how FINE you have him looking too! Its like you said, "we're going to have him get as sexy as ever...then kill him!" You do [not] DO THIS TO LOYAL FANS!
Her solution is simple (and one that's been echoed by many show fans on Twitter and other places). "I think that with all the brilliant ideas and writers that you have, that you make this episode a DREAMT one. A hallucination."
The petition already has about 5,000 supporters so far. So far, Shonda hasn't responded to the petition, but its message is very clear. "You [can't] continue the show without McDreamy," the petition states. "It's not going to happen."
