Celebs hooking up with models or fellow celebs is no biggie. But amidst predictable Hollywood hookups, there exists the classic fantasy where an A-lister picks a girl from the crowd and swoops her into his (or her) loving arms. Here are stories of celebs who ended up falling for their fans IRL—some all the way down the aisle. May pag-asa pa tayo, CGs!
1. Celeb: Jake T. Austin
Fan: Danielle Ceasar
Relationship status: Going strong
When the Wizards of Waverly Place star posted an Instagram-official photo of his new girlfriend, Danielle Ceasar, on December 2015, fans went crazy trying to figure out who she is. Stalker fans dug deep and found that Danielle was also a fellow fan who started tweeting the actor in 2009. One old tweet said, “Can Jake T. Austen go out with me?” A dug-up photo also showed that she met Jake in a meet-and-greet in 2011.
How exactly did they end up together? Jake has kept mum, but he did tell People Magazine, “It doesn’t matter how you meet someone—on set, in a coffee shop, at school, or in the business. Sometimes you connect with people at the right moment and you just click.” And yes, Jake and Danielle are still together. He even posted a Valentine’s Day photo of them with the caption, “Always my valentine.” CGs, go ahead and keep tweeting Zac Efron and Harry Styles.
2. Celeb: Hanson (Isaac, Taylor, and Zac)

For those who grew up listening to “MMMBop,” boy band Hanson is forever etched in our memories. Here’s a bit of trivia to add to your ’90s treasure box: The three boys are now happily married, and they all met their significant others at a Hanson concert. In a 2012 ABC TV special, the boys shared their unlikely love stories. After meeting two of their fans backstage when they were just teens, Taylor married Natalie Bryant in 2002, while Zac married Kate Tucker in 2006. As for the eldest Hanson, Isaac married Nikki Dufresne in 2006, months after he spotted her in the audience of their concert. Isaac and Nikki now have three kids, Taylor and Natalie have five, while Zac and Kate have four.
3. Celeb: Nicolas Cage
Fan: Alice Kim
Relationship status: Married for 11 years; separated in 2016
Nic met his third wife, Alice Kim, back in 2004 when he was 40 years old and she was just 19, working as a waitress in Kabuki, a Los Angeles restaurant. She served him his food and they just hit it off. They were engaged two months after that meeting, and tied the knot on July 30, 2004 at a private ranch in Northern California. They have a 10 year-old son together and were married for 11 years before separating in 2016.

Relationship status: Happily married
“I got lucky. I fell in love with a civilian,” the actor told Esquire back in 2013. Luciana was a bartender in Miami and a fan of Matt Damon’s work when she first met him 2003. He was filming Stuck On You when he ended up in the restaurant she was working in. She helped him hide behind the bar from a mob of fans that fateful day. In 2005, they got married in a private ceremony in Manhattan. They now have four kids together, one from Luciana’s previous marriage.
5. Celeb: Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day
Fan: Adrienne Nesser
Relationship status: Happily married
During a Minneapolis gig, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, then 18, spotted a girl with long, black dreadlocks. “She was just beautiful,” he told VH1 in a documentary. They met backstage and Adrienne gave him her number, asking him to help her get a copy of Green Day’s album. They kept in touch, and he wrote “2,000 Light Years Away” after he first kissed her. When Green Day became popular, he wanted to solidify their long-distance relationship. They got married on July 2, 1994 in Billie’s backyard. The day after the wedding, they found out she was pregnant. They now have two sons, Joseph, 22, and Jakob, 18, both musicians.
Here in the Philippines, there’s one fairy tale love story that topples all local celebrity love stories.
Lucy Torres was only 12 years old when she started cutting photos of her celebrity crush, Richard Gomez, from movie magazines. She slipped the photos under the plastic covers of her notebooks, and her classmates teased that there was no way she would ever get to meet him, especially since she lives in Ormoc. “Oh, but I will see him, I will find him,” she said.
When she turned 18, Lucy was cast as the leading lady of a Lux TV commercial. She had no idea who the leading man was. The brand was quite secretive about the celebrity she was paired up with. She finally met him on the first day of their early-morning shoot. It was Richard, her childhood crush. They spoke, and little did she know that he, too, was enamored by her.
They kept in touch for the next four years and through the numerous shampoo commercial ads that they made together. After all those phone calls, letters, and poems, Richard proposed to Lucy on her birthday in December 1997. Four months later, they were married. Fast-forward to 2017 and they continue to be one of the power couples of Philippine showbiz and politics. Their only daughter, Juliana, is now 16, and the couple just celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary. Read Lucy’s full account of their love story here.
