James Reid's Response To Fans Bashing His Relationship Is A Lesson In Basic Respect

James Reid isn't here for anyone's approval—whether it's about his career, his choices, or his relationships. After years of enduring the social media hate train over his relationship with Issa Pressman, the actor has finally broken his silence, and he said exactly what needed to be said.

One of James' recent TikTok videos covering Dijon's song "Yamaha" sparked controversy after he called out JaDine fans, the name of his fanbase from his previous relationship and love team. The fans have been continuously flooding the comments section with old photos of James and his ex-girlfriend, Nadine Lustre.

At first, James responded to some of the comments. In one, a fan wrote: "nakakatulog pa kaya gf [Issa] nito ng maayos pagkakita sa mga comments?"

To which James replied: "Yes she sleeps very well right next to me."

In another comment, a fan alleged that Issa was probably drowning in jealousy because of the fans' behavior.

James replied: "Not at all. You're the ones who are jealous sending those pics. Think about it."

But finally, James called out the fans, teaching us that no matter how free we are to share our opinions, some people just really have to move on and respect the decisions of others and their relationships.

"So many bitter people that can’t stand to see me this happy," James opened.

"I hope all of you here find love like I did that inspires you and gives you a reason to be your best self. Love is the answer," he added.

Now, James has turned off the comments on the specific TikTok video.

ICYDK, James has long been aware of the criticism of his relationship with Issa. In his 2024 interview with entertainment journalist MJ Marfori, James shared that going public with their relationship wasn't a decision they made lightly—especially knowing how loyal fans usually react to love teams.

"We knew what the consequences would be, and we just had to stick it out until people see that we're happy, and then eventually all that noise won't matter," James said.

"At the end of our lives, it's not how much we please other people. At the end of our lives, it's how happy we were together. That's all that matters," he added.

James and Issa went public with their relationship in March 2023, when Issa posted photos of them attending a concert on Instagram. Meanwhile, Nadine has been in a relationship with her non-showbiz boyfriend Christophe Bariou since 2021.
